The Brand Putter League can trace it’s roots all the way back to 1947, when Bertie Brand who was secretary of Eastwood Golf club at the time, had the idea for a competition which would bring together clubs on the South side of Glasgow. The format he devised was for 9 local clubs to compete in the form of a league and it’s been used ever since. Each season the clubs play home and away for the league championship and the trophy donated by Bertie Brand, a wooden headed, wooden shafted ancient putter on a plinth. The winning club’s name is recorded on the trophy - see table of past winners. Since 1961 the league’s secretary has been Stewart McFarlane who succeeded his father the founder secretary. There have also been several Presidents and Vice-Presidents over the years, Bertie Brand being the first. The current President of the League is Cameron Greer of Eastwood and the current Vice-President is Peter Boyd of Fereneze.
Each year an annual dinner and presentation of prizes is held.
